Walter Stewart’s Rings in the Holidays with “Peter’s Stocking” and “Donation Days”

The memory of Peter Lewis lives on with his favorite holiday tradition – Peter’s Stocking. For the 39th holiday season, Walter Stewart’s invites our youngest shoppers to enter for a chance to win the toys in the giant red Christmas stocking hanging in our store. A tradition started in 1978 by the late Peter Lewis. “Just seeing the happy faces of the kids makes me smile,” Peter said back in 2006 in response to this annual event. The toys were purchased from the New Canaan Toy Store with a few “Peter approved” traditional music toys and classic games. Walter Stewart’s will also donate toys purchased from New Canaan Toy Store to Karl Chevrolet’s Toys for Tots drive. Entries are available at every checkout. The winner will be announced December 21st.

Walter Stewart’s is now holding its annual Holiday T-Bill Donation Days drive to benefit local charities, from December 15th through December 21st.  T-Bill customers are invited to donate our T-Bill balances to the participating local non-profit organization of your choice. Walter Stewart’s donated $2062.14 to our shoppers’ designated local organizations during last year’s Holiday Donation Days drive, as well as more than $4,200 in charitable contributions during the market’s 109th anniversary Donation Days drive. Of that amount, $1,305 benefits the Americares Hurricane Matthew Haiti Relief Effort, in honor of Stewarts’ team members Pierre, Jean and Abcher. Walter Stewart’s donated over 100 Thanksgiving turkeys to Person-to-Person, which distributed the meals to local families in need.

A list of the participating non-profits will be posted at each customer check-out. Shoppers who would like to participate in the T-Bill Donation Days program may obtain a courtesy card from the store’s customer service staff or sign up online.
