Wine Pick of the Week: Kivelstadt KC Labs Zin

Our pick of the week is the 2019 Kivelstadt Cellars KC Labs Zin. Produced through natural fermentation, resulting in a
softer, lighter, fresher expression of California Red Zinfandel.

KC Labs, Kivelstadt Cellars’ experimental side project,
is all about bucking the traditions of California wine,
and there’s no better example than this Zinfandel.

The fruit is grown at Venturi Vineyard in Mendocino,
and is harvested early then allowed to ferment carbonically
without being crushed. This process allows what is normally
a jammy, tannic, and high-alcohol variety and turn it into
a light, fresh summertime wine.

Wine of the Week: Olivier Gessler Cotes de Gascogne White

Noel’s Wine of the Week
Olivier Gessler Cotes de Gascogne White
Mary Taylor Wine, Cotes de Gascogne, IGP, France, 2019

50% Colombard, 20% Ugni Blanc, 20% Gros Manseng, 10% Sauvignon.
In the traditional spirit of the “Old World,” each Mary Taylor Wine has been selected as a faithful ambassador of its geographical origin, true to local traditions and the vision of the individual farmer who bottled it. We are proud to offer affordable wines of genuine quality and integrity (no shortcuts) that will bring the magic of their “terroirs” to life wherever you choose to enjoy them: at a dinner party, next to the grill, or even just on a quiet night at home. The Gessler family, 4th generation winemakers, produce indigenous varietials on thoughtfully farmed properties in France. Colombard is the offspring of Chenin Blanc and Gouis Blanc; this makes the grape the sibling of the Armagnac Meslier-Saint-Francois and the nearly extinct Cognac grape Balzac blanc. Tart and fruity Ugni Blanc is also know as Trebbiano. Gros Manseng is a dry varietal found in Juarancon wines.

Wine Pick of the Week: The Withers El Dorado Rose

Our pick of the week is the 2019 Wither El Dorado Rosé. Rated the #1 American Rosé of this Summer by the Wall Street Journal! We are well stocked on this perfect summer sipper.
“This crisp and elegant take on a pale Provençal rosé hails from California’s Sierra foothills. Winery proprietor Andrew Tow calls it his “homage to Bandol,” the appellation within Provence often regarded as home to the best French rosés.”
Lettie Teague, Wall Street Journal

John’s Wine Pick: Lou Dumont Morey-St-Denis Burgundy

Lou Dumont Morey-St-Denis Burgundy
Pinot Noir | Morey-St-Denis AOC, Gevrey Chambertin, Cote d’Or, France
“Japanese sommelier and oenologist Koji Nakada takes a minimal approach to his wines, limiting pump overs and punch downs. He vinifies with natural yeasts and adds low doses of sulfites during vinification and a little at bottling. A very well-balanced wine with great potential for aging.”
