More than $4,200 in charitable contributions has been raised by Walter Stewart’s shoppers during the market’s 109th anniversary Donation Days drive. Of that amount, $1,305 benefits the Americares Hurricane Matthew Haiti Relief Effort, in honor of Stewarts’ team members Pierre, Jean and Abcher.
Americares has provided close to $6 million in relief aid to Haiti. Desperately-needed medical supplies arrived within two days of the storm, according to spokesperson Holly Donaldson.  Expanded mobile medical care and cholera prevention efforts continue to target hardest-hit and remote regions of the island.
The popular “T-Bill Donation Days”  fund-raising drives are held  throughout the year.  Walter Stewart’s shoppers are invited to donate their “T-Bill” balances to participating non-profits listed at the check-out counters.
Interested patrons may obtain a courtesy card from the market’s customer service staff or sign up online @StewartsMarket.com.
Walter Stewart’s also delivered over 100 Thanksgiving turkeys to Person-to-Person in Darien, which will distribute the meals to local families in need.
