Event Sponsors: Walter Stewart’s Market, Bankwell of New Canaan,
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties, and Baskin Robbins

The 28th Annual Ice Cream Social will be held on the grounds of The New Canaan Historical Society on Sunday, June 4th from 1:00-4:00 p.m.—rain or shine. For only $5.00 admission per person, explore the museums, view an impressive array of vintage cars, hear your favorite “oldies” played by the Town Band and enjoy delicious Baskin-Robbins ice cream along with a selection of cakes at this old-fashioned, family event. There will even be musket firing demonstrations at 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

One of the earliest cars in New Canaan, a 1904 Northern, given to Ned Fairty on his 16th birthday, and winner of last year’s People Choice Award will be back this year. And children will have a great time playing the Colonial games, including “find the needle in the haystack, and making their own lemonade. There will be spinning and weaving demonstrations along with viewing of an authentic 18th century tavern and the Doll Museum in the Hanford–Silliman House. The Cody Drug Store—the original pharmacy now recreated at the Historical Society Townhouse, the John Rogers Studio with its display of Civil War era statuary, the Tool Museum with the printing press from the early 1800s and the Rock School will all be open to visitors.

Off-campus, the iconic Little Red Schoolhouse on Carter Street will open its door from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Graduates Ruth Ann Kelley and Stephen Gravereaux will share memories of the one-room, five-grade school which closed in 1957. The building was restored by the Society in 2003.

Walter Stewart’s Market is once again the lead sponsor of this community celebration. Bankwell of New Canaan and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties are also generous sponsors. Baskin-Robbins will be donating the ice cream for the 26th year.

The National Charity League chapters provide the homemade cakes as well as help with the children’s games and cake serving. Members of the Exchange Club will be on hand to scoop the ice cream.
