Walter Stewart’s is pleased to sponsor the upcoming Pura Vida food packing event on May 31st and June 1st.
For the fifth year in a row, the New Canaan High School Pura Vida Club is organizing an event to help pack 275,000 meals for hungry children on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, in the school’s cafeteria. Volunteers from the community are needed for two-hour shifts between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 1:30-9 on Sunday.
The meals, facilitated by Pura Vida partner, Feed My Starving Children, will provide food for children suffering from malnutrition. The cost for each meal is just 22¢, and the club is seeking $60,500 in donations to cover the cost of the meals.
The Pura Vida Club is the student-led arm of Pura Vida for Children and provides opportunities for high school students to learn about and provide volunteer services for children in need.
The nonprofit, New Canaan-based organization was founded in 2006 and dedicated to creating awareness of and funding for the needs of orphaned, impoverished and sex trafficked children domestically and abroad. It mobilizes volunteer and financial resources to meet critical needs for children and teens, according to a release.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring families, friends, church or school groups or sports teams to pack meals. Children aged kindergarten-second grade must be accompanied one-on-one by an adult.
