6982d088cb16390c53fa8c58bfc665d0Walter Stewart’s is proud to participate in  The Jamie Oliver Food Revolution, which is coming to New Canaan Saturday May 17th! Designed to educate children about healthy eating, whilst getting them to try something new, a one-off Pop Up Park will be created (off Elm Street) on Saturday May 17 between 9:30 – 11:30am. Kids can register for a fun food trail, and be entered into a prize draw.
Jamie Oliver is a huge British Chef / TV personality and Food Revolution Day is a UK and USA Campaign set up by his Food Foundation. In 2010, Jamie was awarded the prestigious TED Prize to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity. To date, 95 countries participate and over 1,000 ambassadors champion the cause worldwide.
New Canaan residents Silvia Baldini – Founder / Chef Strawberry & Sage and Rachel Lampen – RLPR Ltd have volunteered their time to be the 2014 Food Revolution Ambassadors. With only four towns participating across the whole of Connecticut – New Canaan joins Branford, Meriden and Middletown.
To promote the Food Revolution philosophy of getting kids excited about food whilst educating them, an idea was born to create a Bravery Passport. Kids who register in advance will get the opportunity to visit participating restaurants and food shops to sample something they would not normally eat! The passports will contain a list of establishments so children can excitedly run to each one and taste a sample – only if they are brave enough do they receive a stamp. Once the passport has been completed, it can be entered in to a prize draw.
Food Ambassador Rachel Lampen says: “We wanted to create something fun for all ages – from small kids all the way up to teenagers from New Canaan and the surrounding area. The day itself is all about trying different things and enjoying learning about various food types and flavors. Parents are encouraged to accompany the children, and visit the many wonderful restaurants in New Canaan. At this stage we really want to thank the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce for supporting us and enabling us to use the Pop Up Park on a busy Saturday morning. The restaurants have been terrific in dreaming up exciting and challenging things to try – now we just need the kids!”
The Bravery Passports will be limited to 150 (one passport per child) and must be registered for in advance to avoid disappointment. Pre-registered passports can be collected from the Pop Up Park at 9:30am. To register online visit here.
Silvia Baldini continues: “We wanted to keep things simple so our only rule is that you have to try all the foods in all the locations in order to fill up your passport stamps, although everyone participating will receive a ‘Bravery Certificate’. Completed Bravery Passports are to be handed in by 11:30am for entry into the prize draw.”
Following are the 16 confirmed participants: Rosie’s; Station Eats; Boulevard 18; Peachwave Yogurt; Fjord Fisheries; South End; Chef Luis; Elm; Picador; Loopie Doop’s Cookies at Sole; Strawberry & Sage; No 109 Cheese & Wine; Baldanza, Goldenberry and Walter Stewart’s Market. New Canaan Olive Oil will also be talking about the benefits of olive oil in the Pop Up Park.
