From the creative kitchen of Julia Deane and Culinary Works comes this simple, yet elegant, crostini appetizer. The crisp tartness of apples and the warm comfort of melted brie are the perfect combination for a delicious start to a dinner or an original addition to your game day fare. Finish with chopped walnuts and a drizzle of honey and enjoy!

Ingredients

1 baguette, cut into 1/2 inch slides, toasted*
1 jar of apple butter or fig jam
6 oz. brie cheese, room temperature
2 large granny smith apples or apple of your choice
Lemon juice
1/2 cup chopped toasted walnuts
Honey for drizzling

Directions

Pre – heat oven to 375°F.
Cut apples into thin slices, disregarding core. Squeeze a little lemon juice on top of apples to prevent browning. In the meantime, spread apple butter or fig jam on one side of crostini, about 1 tsp. per slice. Thinly slice brie and place on top of crostini, then top with thinly slice apple. Place on sheet tray and bake until cheese is heated through and melted. Optional – add the sliced apples after melted brie crostini comes out of oven.
Remove crostini to serving tray and drizzle with honey and then sprinkle with walnuts.
To make crostini:
Place sliced baguette on a sheet tray, drizzle liberally with olive oil, sprinkle with salt & pepper and back until golden brown. Do not store crostini in a zip lock as this will cause them to soften and taste stale. Store loosely covered in bowl.
