This is the first time an American cheesemaker has been awarded this accolade, placing first in a field of 3,804 entries representing 42 countries. A hyper-seasonal product, it’s a blue cheese made from the milk of a small herd of Brown Swiss and Holstein cattle with a distinctive, fruity character from the 15 months it spends aging wrapped in Syrah grape leaves.
