The Recreation Department’s free summer concerts at Waveny Park began last week on the lawn behind Waveny House. They are held each Wednesday from 7:30-9:30 until the end of August. Attendees are welcome to bring a chair or blanket and a picnic supper (order from Walter Stewart’s) and enjoy the music.
The music presented ranges from acoustic to big band, and from jazz to country.
The schedule is as follows, all concerts on Wednesdays, most have Thursday rain-dates (except the July 2 show):
• June 25, Gunsmoke: Country western band; sponsor is New Canaan Community Foundation
• July 2, Cool Shoes: Party rock and dance band; no raindate; sponsor is Karl Chevrolet
• July 9, Airborne: contemporary jazz; raindate, Thursday, July 10; sponsor is Health & Wellness Center of Connecticut
• July 16, The Bookends: 60s and 70s songs; raindate, Thursday, July 17; sponsor is Hotel Zero Degrees
• July 23, Doug Allen: singer/songwriter, acoustic pop; raindate: Thursday, July 24; sponsor is TD Bank
• July 30, Sarah Chesler: melodic pop with jazz influences; raindate, Thursday, July 31; sponsor is Fjord Fish Market
• Aug. 6, Billy & The Showmen: Motown, rhythm and blues; raindate,Thursday, Aug. 7; sponsor is Hobbs Construction
